Propellerhead's Reason Virtual Recording Studio


What Is It?

The Alabama TI:ME Chapter’s Fall Conference provides a unique opportunity for music educators to gain exposure to the vast array of computer-based technologies for the creation, performance and study of music. On Saturday, November 14, 2009 the UAB Music Technology Academy will host the first annual Fall Conference of the Alabama Chapter of the Technology Institute for Music Educators. This intensive full-day workshop for K-12 music teachers will be held in the UAB Department of Music's state-of-the-art music technology lab and performance facilities. The $25 fee includes a box lunch, T-shirt, certificate of completion and eligibility to win valuable door prizes. Additionally, teachers can earn up to 6 hours of professional development credit. Through hands-on instructional sessions, informational workshops, and computer music performances, teachers will gain useful knowledge and valuable skills for employing music technology into the classroom.

Who May Participate?

K-12 Music Teachers: Spaces are limited. Teacher registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. To complete the teacher registration form, click here. Teachers may receive up to 6 hours of professional development credit for participating in this event. Contact your district supervisor for details.

All participants will be notified of their acceptance status by November 3, 2009.


What Will Be Learned?

Sessions will focus on multimedia production, computer assisted instructional tools, and sequencing and scoring techniques. The multimedia production component introduces technologies for creating and improving websites and creating podcasts. The computer assisted instructional tools component will demonstrate programs for encouraging students to practice, as well as teaching music theory and ear training skills. The sequencing and scoring component will help teachers become familiar with notation and sequencing programs well-suited for musical arrangements, accompaniments, practice aids and worksheets.


Where Is It Held?

The academy is held on the campus of UAB in the music department’s state-of-the-art music tech lab and recording studio.

Saturday, November 14th, 2009, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

What Does It Cost?


The academy is $25 (only $20 for current TI:ME members). This cost includes lunch, a T-shirt and a certificate of completion. Also, at the end of the camp, all participants will be entered in drawings for valuable door prizes.
