UAB Music Technology Academy - Fall 2008

 

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Music is pleased to announce a one-day music technology workshop for high school students and music educators. The workshop, presented by the UAB Music Technology Academy, will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2008 in UAB’s state-of-the-art labs and recording studios. Featured presenters will include special guest David B. Williams, PhD, co-author of Experiencing Music Technology and Professor Emeritus at Illinois State University; Scott L. Phillips, PhD, Assistant Professor of Music Technology at UAB; Joel Bouchillon, Instructor of Recording Engineering at UAB; James Bevelle, Chief Recording Engineer at UAB and Audiostate 55 Recording Studios; Brian Moon, Instructon of Music Technology at UAB; and Henry Panion III, PhD, University Professor of Music at UAB. A pre-academy concert featuring the UAB Computer Music Ensemble will be held on Friday, November 7, at 7:30 pm in the Hulsey Recital Hall on the UAB campus.

To participate, high school students must be nominated by a teacher or other individual and complete the online application. Teachers wishing to participate must also register online. All materials are due by October 20, 2008. It is strongly encouraged that teachers register as soon as possible to better insure an opportunity to participate. Teachers may receive up to 6 hours of professional development (in-service) credit (you should contact your area supervisor for proper procedures and credit approval).

The UAB Music Technology Academy provides a unique opportunity for music students and educators to gain exposure to the vast array of computer-based technologies for the creation, performance and study of music and to enhance students’ awareness of college and career opportunities in the field of music technology.
